ActiveSync coming to Hotmail on Monday reports CNET

CNET is reporting that Microsoft’s Dharmesh Mehta has told them that on Monday, August 30, Exchange ActiveSync will be enabled for Hotmail users, allowing users to receive push emails on mobile devices.

This is apparently a long awaited feature for Hotmail users according to CNET, and one that Microsoft promised to roll out when it updated Hotmail recently.

According to CNET, the integration will work like this:

“While many phones support ActiveSync for connecting to an Exchange server, the feature will be most useful on a relatively small number of phones that support dual ActiveSync accounts, including the Palm Pre, the latest iPhone, and the forthcoming Windows Phone 7-based devices. Phone users who don’t connect to an Exchange Server but have a device with ActiveSync support will also be able to use the new Hotmail feature.”

Any Hotmail users out there reading this? Are you excited about this? Please let us know in the comments!

Kapitall Brings the Fun and the Social to Investing

Kapitall Company Snapshot.jpg

Investing and managing our finances carefully to ensure a secure future is something that everyone should be doing, but many people are intimidated by the idea as much as by the process. Kapitall is a free service that aims to change all of that by educating consumers in an interactive, graphically-pleasing way.

According to Kapitall's CEO, Gaspard de Dreuzy, the focus is on "generating a unique user experience that makes investing a more inviting and engaging activity." With a background as a producer in the videogame industry, the influence is clear. Kapitall users "level up" through missions and levels that gradually introduce them to more advanced tools and financial concepts.

A host of easy-to-use features are also provided, including companies color-coded by sector, comprehensive watch lists, and a search engine that works with familiar brand names, as well as company names. Perhaps the most useful is the Compar-o-matic, which pops up when multiple companies are dragged and dropped on the comparison tool.

The Kapitall experience is also a social one. Users can either create a new Kappitall account, or use their Facebook account, and can also share information with their Facebook contacts and other Kapitall users. There are also opportunities for users to "battle" with other users and set up competitions with their own time limits and goals, in order to see who can create the best portfolio of investments.

Users also have the choice to use Kapitall purely as a learning and research environment with practice portfolios. Thanks to a partnership with TD Ameritrade, users can make actual trades in their real-life portfolio. Users must log in to their TD Ameritrade account to trade, and will be responsible for the associated fees, but all of the other tools that Kapitall provide are free of charge.

Jailbreak iOS 4 Guide [ Works For All iPhone's ]

When we think of getting an iPhone from US, then the only problem that keeps on poking us is the issue of getting it jailbreaked. We may end up with a very long procedure and then get irritated after paying a huge amount of money. In India people generally add upto Rs 2000/- in their budget for getting it jailbreaked but as usual I have a very nice solution to your problem, but before going further i would like to clear a misconception, which maximum iPhone users have.

There is a big difference between SIM unlocking and jailbreaking. SIM unlocking means that unlocking the service provider for which the iPhone was programmed, after this you can use any SIM of any service provider in your iPhone and in case of jailbreaking you will break the OS of your iPhone so that you can add any other ringtone, themes and other effects to your iPhone. The jailbreaking can be performed on any device of Apple product like iPad, iPhone, iPod etc.

Today i will be giving you an online solution to your jailbreaking problem, this solution can be performed only on the iOS 4.0 and 4.0.1, you can visit a site known as www.jailbreakme.com where you can know about the formalities which are to performed if you want to get jailbreak done.

This was a great effort made by Comex in predicting a nice solution for this problem and specially now when jailbreaking has been made legal by the hard work of EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation)

The first and the most basic thing which should be kept in mind is that you should visit this site from the product which you want to jailbreak. Then you should be aware that this site will not help you for SIM unlocking. It requires WiFi or 3G connectivity to jailbreak the device.

Now it requires few and basic steps to jailbreak your device, which are mentioned as follows:-

  1. Logon to www.jailbreakme.com from your device.
  2. Wait for the complete loading of this page and till you see an option which will be telling you to swipe your finger if you want to jailbreak your device. This will be very much similar to unlocking the device by swiping your finger (which we do daily).
  3. Then wait for the downloading to complete as it will be downloading all the necessary data to jailbreak your device.
  4. After the downloading is completed and the installation is also complete, a warning message will appear that Cydia icon has been added on the springboard.

The above message confirms that you device has been jailbreaked. Thats It!!!! enjoy now…

Free Up, Clean Disk Space On Mac OS X - Delete Useless Junk Files

No matter how organized a person you are (I like to believe that I’m an organization nazi and don’t sleep well if my stuff isn’t arranged as its supposed to be), your stuff tends to get misplaced and clogged up. It happens with your files too. Most of us don’t even realize what is taking up all of that hard disk space because we feel there is nothing on our hard disk.

Once you make up your mind and sit down to actually clean your computer and delete stuff that is not needed, you realize what a tedious and boring task it is. It can take hours, and you may end up freeing a significantly small amount of space even after a lot of work.

The problem here is the way that we look at things. If you are a Mac user, then quickly finding which folders are clogging up most of your space isn’t an easy task. You have to select each folder individually, and then press Cmd + I or right click and select ‘Get Info’. This trivial activity itself is very tiring and irritating, if you have to do it repeatedly.

DiskWave is a freeware utility for Mac OS X that lets you browse your files and clean them up and organize them (and of course remove the ones you don’t need) by presenting them to you in way that is convenient for such activities. Here’s how it does it -

This sample screenshot shows you how you can browse into any number of directories and subdirectories easily with DiskWave, while retaining the tree structure (as a horizontal scroll bar) which is similar to the column view in Finder, with a significant difference – the size of each file or directory is displayed to its left, is neatly aligned with all other sizes and names, and is color coded so you can easily tell from the color if its a directory or a file.

A few directories are listed already on the left side pane, but you can easily add your own directories there for quick reference.

DiskWave does not provide a lot of customizability, which is a weak point. You can configure the unit of size (GBs, MBs, KBs) or choose the sorting criteria (Name or Size). You may also choose to display invisible files (the ones that start with a . which are usually system files such as .DS_Store), but this is where the preferences end. I expected a lot more options, but I guess these were the important ones.

Comments: Very interesting indeed, special now that Jail Breaking is legal in the US.

iPhone devteam releases browser-based 4.x jailbreak

08-01-2010

Have you been waiting for an easy-to-use jailbreak for your iOS 4.x device? Well, you may have to wait a little longer. La st we checked, the just-announced browser-based jailbreak (a return of jailbreakme.com) was so swamped that the server stopped responding. Jailbreak expert Comex tweets that he is working to restore the site from heavy loads.

Once that happens, you should be able to jailbreak your iDevice by browsing to jailbreakme.com in your mobile Safari application. There you'll be presented with a simple slide-to-jailbreak screen. So far, TUAW has been unable to reach the jailbreakme site to test out the new jailbreak but is looking forward to trying it out when the server gets back in business.

As always, be aware that you jailbreak at your own risk. It's often best to wait a few days for any first generation bug fixes to propagate out, if needed.

Update: You'll know if the jailbreak has worked by the downloading and jailbreaking screens. The jailbreak ends with a message that Cydia has been added to your home screen. Click OK and you're good to go. If you do not see these messages post-swipe, you have not jailbroken yet. Early reports indicate some issues with broken FaceTime, mms, wireless data.

Thanks to Brad/Tommy/Kyle for sending in the heads-up.

If you really care about your system and expect that whenever any important change occurs in your system then you should be aware about it, even if that software does has a support to notify you, then i have a wonderful tool for you which is named as Comodo Programs Manager, which will help you to have a complete updated information about all the tools, drivers and Operating System updates installed on your system.

According to me i will remark this tool as ‘Wonderful’ because of its beautiful appearance and better User-Interface. We have already reviewed a similar tool known as ‘System Nucleus’ which included all the important information related to the Updates in you Operating System, drivers installed on your system, all the softwares installed on your system and also the system configuration. This tool has its own advantage as discussed in above in the paragraph. It will not only include the hardware drivers, but can also handle the drivers and registries associated with the other softwares installed on your system.

As you can see from the application window that it has a ‘Home’ icon which includes the summary of the number programs installed, the space occupied by them, the number of drivers and services installed, the space occupied by them, features of your OS available and the number of updates installed.

The program option will show you all the programs or application installed on your system and then from here you can either repair them or uninstall them. The second option ‘Drivers and Services’ will include all the hardware drivers and the registries related to the applications, here you can uninstall any driver related to any of you hardware or software. The snapshot of the first option is shown above and that of the second option is shown below.

In the features section you can see all the features of you OS which are enabled or disable as they will be enlisted in the application window, you can also enable or disable any feature in your Operating System. The forth section is of Windows Update, it will include the updates which have been installed for your Operating System, you may uninstall them as per your convenience.

The size of this tool is around 9 Mb and still it will not take much time to get installed and as usual it will create a desktop shortcut which can be used to use this freeware. This tool is compatible with all the versions of Windows as it has been checked with Windows 7 32-bit Ultimate edition.
